I compare the Sony 16-35mm f2.8 GM (http://sdp.io/s16gm) vs the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 (http://sdp.io/n14) and the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 (http://sdp.io/t15).

  1. Thanks for the review Tony, been a D810 and now 850 shooter and have been in envy of the 16-35 GM since its arrival hopefully Nikon produce something of equivalent quality

  2. How can a lens of a certain focal length be "Best Landscape Lens" ?? It's all a matter of preference and there is no connection between landscapes and wide angle. I will choose a 70-200 for landscapes any time rather than a 16-35.

  3. Hi Tony and Chelsea, something awful happened the other day i dropped my A7R2 in the ocean!!! it's dead!! now i need a new camera!!! i loved my a7r2 taking landscape photos. I would love to do some long night exposures also what camera would you recommend, A7r3 or A7III? Aloha

  4. are all your pictures taken at 2.8 wide open? If so, this is a bad test because I don't know of anyone that will shoot a landscape at 2.8, Perhaps for a special effect. A real test would have been to take it outside and shoot all the lenses at f8, i seriously doubt that there would be any difference. I am really starting to get annoyed with everyone shooting everything wide open. please do this test again but at f8 on each lens, then i will give it a thumbs up instead of a thumbs down 🙂

  5. Just curious, just because the Sony was sharper at 2.8, would that mean it was sharper through the entire aperture range, i mean doesn't each lens have a different sweet spot? I mean is it possible you may have had different results say outside shooting at say f8 or f11?

  6. I used that Nikon lens in the past and it was soft back then, it's in desperate need of an update. Nikon aren't a consideration anymore for architectural photographers such as myself.

  7. Wow! I think is the landscape lens ive been searching for. Perfect field of view range. I was fixed on wide angle primes for landscapes but something you said in another video about having versatility with a zoom so you get the scene in camera you want as apposed to cropping in post made a lot of sense.

  8. Hi!! I have a d5600. I want to dump the kit 18-55m and upgrade to the 16-35mm. Is that over kill for that body ?? Rjmic on IG if you want to see my style and suggest what a one lens to pack and go. $1000 max budget for one lens . Thanks 😊
