  1. People are surprised when they find out that my husband and I have four kids, own a house and two cars, and still save money. Neither of us make much money but we prioritize saving. Every paycheck is budgeted for bills and savings. If you stick with the mentality that saving money is just as important as paying bills, then you will begin to see where you can cut spending. We don’t buy new clothes or shoes unless they’re needed and we thrift shop often. Yes, we might have a decent figure in our savings but we aren’t going to blow it on a trip to Disney or a new car just because we want those things. Prioritizing needs over wants leads to savings.

But I still get coffee like 3 times a week so heh 😏

  2. I come from one of those countries with low salaries – it took me three summer seasons to afford even the basic gear (cheap DSLR, three basic zooms, tripod, computer) but I'm glad that I've done it with my own hands and didn't pull anyone's sleeve.

  3. Correct about spending the same or less each year, I work a job which pays fortnightly and am lucky to have that. I haven't saved up for anything in a while because I just buy new kit (or used) whenever I have the money to afford it and not go broke for that couple of weeks or rest of the month. I see gear as an investment but also always want a new lens or light or camera.. it is tough living in London because everyday you are drained financially.

  4. So freaking refreshing to see someone talk about this instead of just allowing people to whine and think it takes rich parents or a great job to get somewhere. I never had anything much growing up. But I worked hard and built a business and now have enough money to afford nice things. It's great, but now I'm a lot smarter about money than I was when I was younger. If I would have been smarter back then I would be so much better off than I even am now. So kudos to you for earning it!
