digital picture lens tool answers all the questions but i appreciate your real world observation never the less converters are a compromise
What about af tracking ?
I just got my new Canon 5D Mk IV to replace my 5DMk II and I'll be using it next year to do high school and hopefully community collegiate football night games at field level. I was thinking about getting this 2X Teleconverter for my 70-200mm F/2.8 using a monopod. Since I can't afford a 600mm f/4L IS II USM Lens like you guys……lol
An important difference is the accuracy and quickness of focusing. That should be discussed.
Thanks guys. I have been debating on the same thing, teleconverter or not?
Can you guys do the same test with the new Sony G Master 70-200mm & G Master 100-400mm? And maybe comparing sharpness with these Canon lenses.
Tony – for Nikon people – Tamron 70-200mm g2 w 2x Teleconverter or Tamron 100-400mm ?
Hallo, T&C I followed your advice and It worked as you mentioned. Meanwhile I switched to the Sony A9 and 6500 using Canon 2X converter with the 70-200mmf2,8II with the Metabones or MC11 and it worked great too. (the MC 11 doen not work with the 500mm f4 II but the metabone does( even with 1,4 and 2x converter). Now I have seen (DxOmark) that the Sony 70-200mm f2.8 GM is better than the Canon. I want to switch since native lenses work the best on the A9 but I see mixed reaction on the 2X sony converter. As our big adviser I look of course to the T&C team for advice. Regards from the Netherlands we like you too. Dieter Paterek
to the point!! thank you!
thankyou
Would it be same Result for the Sony Lenses the 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens vs the Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens ??? Please
Chelsea were so thin….
Hi Tony % Chelsea, thanks so much for that awesome review, can you please tell me how you achieved that look in this video?, any LUTS you could share, etc.?, Greetings from Venezuela
Hi Tony & Chelsea, I was wondering if you could recreate this video only using the Sony lenses. I am wanting the reach of the 400mm so wanted to know if getting the Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM or if I should get the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM with the Sony 2x Teleconverter SEL20TC. Thank you so much, I appreciate all your videos.
These guys clearly don't shoot sports or any fast moving subjects. Try shooting sports with a 70-200 and 2x converter, you can't because the converter slows down the autofocus too much. I own both the 70-200 and the 100-400 for a reason.
I'm planning on buying the 70-200 F4 IS ii, and using the 1.4 and 2.0 separately, anyone know if these are a good combo and what my effective largest aperture will be using the TC's ?? Thankyou.
u have a 28-300mm should i invest in a teleconverter
Please do this for the sony lenses as well.
surprisingly short review.
For wild life could I get away with using a 70-200mm on my canon 80d?? Considering crop factor, I'll be able to get kinda close to the 400 if it were on a full frame. anyway.
Great review. That's exactly what I thought!
But with the Teleconverter on the 400mm you'll get an 800mm, keep them both! lol
Does the 2X tele work the same with the F4 version of the 70-200?
But 400 x2 = 800 Just saying
Hey maybe dumb question- but can you stack 2X converters to get to 1600? 3200? 6400? 12800?
Okay I got the 7d mk2 and I got a 70-200 2.4 is II lens, for extra reach and bird photography ie flying birds or resting birds would this work the 2x converter like would my autofocus still be decent for flying birds and would the quality still be decent for resting birds, I’m not looking to do anything for National Geography yet just something that will help me capture really good stuff and then later I’ll get better gear if needed
Is 24-70 + 2x + EF -> EFM adaptor a crazy idea? Or nah?
i have got canon 100-400mm IS II USM lens. Please suggest shall i also go for 70-200mm IS MIII lens.
This is ridiculous, they have another video where Chelsea states that she doesn’t like using teleconverters because she find they increase the zoom in the view finder but not when you look at the actual images. It’s at the end of their comparison with the sigma and tamron 150-600
is the 2Xiii worth paying extra money over 2Xii ??
What do you think about a canon 70-200 f4 non stabilized + 2x extender? Can they work together? Obviously on tripod.
Thanks for the info…you guys just saved me a few bucks!
watching chelsea still makes me hard !
Hi: my question is the 70-200 a 2.8? Thanks.
HI Tony an chelse …
Thanks 4 vedeo
I want to use 2x on my Canon 70-200f2.8 mark ii
On crop frame camera canon 70d …
Do you advice ?or just for full frame
Hi Tony & Chelsea, thank you very much for this quick review, sweet & to the point. Just one additional question, did the focusing also worked as well with the 70-200 + 2X teleconverter? Since you guys didn't bring it up, I'm assuming focusing was about equally fast and accurate.
I tried the 70-200 with a 2X converter. I am afraid the focusing speed is a tiny bit slower. This may be critical for wildlife photographer. 100-400 mm lens is a bit better in focusing speed. I'd rather prefer keeping the 70-200 as a traveling lens, taking portraiture, while using the 100-400 mm for wild life shooting.
Previously I had 400 f 5.6 & now I am using 100-400 is ii with 7d mk ii both lenses are great but just wanted to know if I add a TC 1.4 iii then how many autofocus will work with 7d mk ii with 100-400 is ii + tc 1.4 iii?
Great news! I thought I’d have to buy the 100-400 and having watched this video I won’t have to. Thanks Tony and Chelsea!
Tony and Chelsea still following you every day! What I know I’ve, largely, learned from you and watch all your camera and lens reviews. Wonderful! Macro I learn from Don Komarechka whose new Macro book will be out at Christmas. He’s close enough to attend workshops. It’s been about five years now – you guys are inspirational ❤️🇨🇦
What about the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM with Canon 2x III TC on a Canon 80D (APS-C): General consensus to recommend against this combination?
please please please, ive searched for a video talking about using extender with speed booster for mirrorless camera, in order to reduce the f stop that the extender reduces. can you talk about this option please.
i have canon 77d with 70-200mm III, could suggest me which teleconverter is good for my camera, plz
Ken Rockwell seems to like the 100-400 II better than the 70-200 2.8 II. Other than for macro, it’s probably unnecessary.
